My Why About Family Portraits

Do you want to know why?

Because every day I have with these people is a gift.

And I won't ever know how many more I may be blessed with.

I was reminded of this as I sat in the hospital with my 14 year old son, Leighton, after emergency surgery on a ruptured appendix.

We were so blessed. Close to great medical care. Operating team available quickly. Modern antibiotics that work wonders. So many people praying for him.

But appendicitis used to be fatal. Fatal.

I take the family portraits because I'm thankful for every single day. I hire a professional so that I am not the 'invisible mom' that took all the pictures and was never in any of them. I make portraits a priority because these people are important to me.

That's my why.
