The Big 40

The Big 40.

I knew it was coming. I mean, it had been coming for 40 years!

But like so many life events you just don’t understand until you get there, I wasn’t prepared for the mixed up feelings I had that day.

It was bitter sweet.

Bitter because COVID ruined my plans for a Miami get away with friends.
Sweet because I ended up with my siblings unexpectedly, delightfully.

Bitter because my body just doesn’t hold up to workouts like it used to.
Sweet because I was still able to tube and hold my own on the lake!

Bitter because our world is hurting with deep, painful race issues.
Sweet because my daughter, two nieces, and nephew of color inspire my whole family to do better.

Bitter because the adoption of our 5th child is still not final.
Sweet because the court date is set for July 10th!!!

Bitter because my business isn’t back up to full speed quite yet.
Sweet because it gave me extra time to give back to others.

Bitter because I can’t get back a single moment of those 40 years.
Sweet because I have lived them all so, so fully.

Bitter. Sweet. So, so sweet.
